TUPELO – Seventy griddle teams have purebred for a 7th annual Tupelo BBQ Duel, though there are still spots available.

“Our goal, always, is 100,” pronounced Leslie Mart, co-chairman of a event, along with Bev Crossen. “I’ve got 101 spots. we can’t force some-more than 101 out there.”

The three-day event, Mar 17-19 during Fairpark in downtown Tupelo, facilities dual Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned competitions, giveaway concerts, kids’ activities, a People’s Choice Pulled Pork Tasting and food vendors.

“The people who contest during this come from all areas and walks of life,” Mart said. “We have teams and judges entrance from 23 states.”

Last year, Cajun Blaze from Gonzales, Louisiana, was named a Grand Champion for any foe and was also named a Double Duel Grand Champion.

“That’s an implausible feat,” she said.

Cajun Blaze will be returning to this year’s competition, along with other large names, such as radio celebrities Johnny Trigg of Smokin’ Triggers and Rod Gray of Pellet Envy.

“Twenty-five percent of a Top 100 ranked teams in a republic are coming,” Mart said. “We get some that transport a circuit competing as good as people who usually contest dual or 3 times a year.”

On Saturday, Mar 18, during 11 a.m., attendees will have a event to ambience pulled pig prepared by a opposite pitmasters who are competing.

“A lot of a teams will attend in a People’s Choice,” Mart said. “That’s where a open gets to ambience and decider a veteran teams’ pulled pork. It’s an extraordinary approach to get to ambience a pro’s barbecue. You can have 5 tastes for $5 and people can decider as many teams as they wish.”

More than $25,000 will be awarded in money and prizes for a dual duels. The teams contest in 4 categories: chicken, brisket, pig boundary and ribs.

Barbecue is a family,” Mart said. “These people might live 10 states apart, though when they strike a site, they’re family, they ask about any other’s children, they rise relationships.”

The Tupelo BBQ Duel is a signature fundraiser for Link Centre, that links village with a humanities and amicable services.
